Tan-Bark Peeler
By popular demand is this modern recreation of an antique design. The Hemlock bark peeler sometimes referred to as a tan-bark peeler was originally used to easily strip logs of their bark for use in hide tanning operations. With it's long blade edge it can be easily drawn down the length of the log while the curved, hooked end makes it easy to work around knots and pull sheets of bark free. Surviving examples of this kind of peeler can sometimes be found in antique stores, usually resharpened with little, usable edge remaining, if examples can be found at all.
This blade is a "damascus' of mild steel for durability with a core of 15N20 forge welded in for edge retention. The steel continues into the socket as one piece and the handle is riveted in place.
